When I was growing up my mother used to tell me how lucky I was to be an American because our educational system was the best in the world. Â I had my doubts when I got into college and met up with classmates from all over the world. I learned some countries mandated school days of 8 hours or longer. Â Japan had a six day a week curriculum. Â Homework was a full time after school task. Â And every foreign student absolutely blew the rest of us out of the water when it came to math and languages.

Finding a new job is stressful enough, but in times like this it can be downright depressing. Before giving up and asking your mother if your old room is still available, there is hope! Rule number one: stand out from the crowd and stop doing what everyone else is doing. Forget the standard resume, cover letter and mass mailing to every company in the phone book. Don’t waste a lot of time filling out applications at online job boards. And definitely don’t put much time in scouring the daily Help Wanted ads in your local newspaper. Why? Every job hunter is doing the same thing. You need to be creative, while still focusing on your goal – finding a job that you are qualified for.
![]() Frank the Pug in MIB For anyone out of work and strapped for cash, buying groceries and paying bills is hard enough. Add a hefty supply of dog food each week and you could find yourself in real trouble! Instead of watching Fido nap in front of the TV all day, turn his true talents into some cash. Even you might be amazed at how easily you could turn your canine couch potato into a veritable cash cow! Does he do tricks on command? Is he house trained? If so, you could be sharing your couch with a future celebrity! Agencies are always looking for new, fresh animal talent although until recently they certainly never made it easy to be found. Now that everyone and his grandmother has some sort of online presence, even animal agencies are vying for new clients and making the application process actually user friendly for a change. No more expensive portfolios, demo tapes, or recommendations from your dog’s personal trainer. Just take a few photos and a home video, upload it, explain what your little pooch can do best, and you might just get lucky. |
