“Harry Potter encourages satanism”, said an Austrian priest Rev. Gerhard Maria earlier this year. Now, the Vatican is praising Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for its “clear” depiction of its struggle between good and evil.
Vatican has gone surgical on the movie, analyzing a bit too much. The movie brings Harry and the Dark Lord Voldemort face to face as the battle continues. Hogwarts is no longer a safe place. Darker than ever before, Harry tries to understand his nemesis better by visiting his early days as a child and a student of Hogwarts. Death will come to the Muggle and the Wizarding world but in the end it is a fight between good and evil.
The Vatican’s official newspaper stated that this movie is by far the best adaptation of the JK Rowling books, and described it as “a mixture of supernatural suspense and romance which reaches the right balance”. It also said ”the search for immortality epitomised by Lord Voldemort” was wrong. Vatican also approved of the young romance in the halls and corridors of Hogwarts, saying it reached the “correct balance”.
Last year it was nothing but criticism about the movie from the Vatican, calling it diabolical, satanic and calling Harry “the wrong kind of hero”. Now, quiet the contrary, it is being praised by the Vatican.
The movie did not get great reviews during the pre-screening with one viewer saying anyone who had read the book will find the movie “severely disappointing”. Will this stop me from going and watching the movie? Probably NOT,  there will always be haters.
