My last article about Google Chrome OS has striked some immense interest in the software as a service topic. Many believe that it has too many limitations due to the bandwidth or speed of a users connection. Onlive is a service that enables any computer with a web browser and an internet connection to perform some of the most computer intensive applications known to the tech world. Just recently Google has announced that they are partaking on yet another new project. Unlike most of their adventures this one is not a web based service; rather it is actually an operating system for personal computers. But this will not be the traditional operating system like Windows and Mac. It will be a PC based entirely on SAAS (Software as a Service) Model, eliminating the need for you to buy your own software.

If you’re a gamer like me you know as well as I do that another summer means another Xbox 360 system update. xbox which has added much needed functionality to how Microsoft incorporates Netflix streaming into their console.

Prior to this update you were required to choose the movies you wanted to watch on your Xbox on the Netflix website. You would add them to a queue, and that queue would be viewable on ones console after they linked their account. But this latest update allows the Netflix-Xbox experience to become completely independent of any computer. In other words you are able to choose any movie that Netflix offers directly on the Xbox without first needing to select it on the PC. This helps all of us become more efficient couch potatoes!

The latest news coming from our friends at Mozilla labs seems to be a brand new overhauled user interface for there ever so popular Firefox browser. Now this new design is not final, these are simply brainstorm concepts coming straight from the horse’s mouth, but these do look very promising.

The GUI of any piece of software has replaced functionality as the consumer’s standard for judging them. This can easily be witnessed by looking at Microsoft’s overhaul of the Word, Excel and PowerPoint user interfaces when they were released in Office 2007. Or even by looking at anything Apple has released. Just look at their Iphone and their Mac OSX operating system. Part of the reason they are so popular is because Apple focuses a great deal of time in making the user experience as amazing as possible. Software has become kind of trendy, sort of like clothes. If they don’t look cool people don’t want them.
